Permission to Rest
A Letter to my fellow artists…
As artists, we pour so much of ourselves into our work. Every brushstroke, every line, every color choice is an act of giving—a reflection of how we see and feel the world around us. But with that constant giving comes moments of exhaustion, frustration, and even burnout. I’ve been there many times, especially after participating in large art events. These events, while exhilarating, take a tremendous amount of energy to prepare for. Don’t get me wrong—I love meeting my collectors in person and sharing my creations—but the mental and physical toll can be immense.
In those moments, it’s crucial to give ourselves permission to rest. Rejuvenation is not a luxury; it’s essential. We need time to soak in the inspiration around us, to heal, and to recharge. This is how we continue to give back to our art and our audience. Think of it like a baker who tirelessly crafts pastries—both creating art and baking are acts of creation that take tremendous energy, physically and emotionally.
If you’ve been feeling drained, now is the time to take that well-deserved break. If you need permission to rest, I’m giving it to you right here and now. Leave the studio for a while. Step outside, immerse yourself in nature, look up at the stars, and spend time with your loved ones.
When you allow yourself the space to truly rest, you’ll come back to your work with fresh energy and a renewed sense of purpose. Your next piece will reflect the beauty of the moments you’ve taken to breathe, and you’ll find yourself creating the most powerful art you’ve ever made.
Remember, my fellow creators: to care for your collectors and the world you’re giving to, you must first care for yourself. Love yourself so you can continue to give love through your art. You are a precious soul, and you deserve the rest you need.
