Why Your Best Work Is Always Ahead of You

There are people out there, artists included, who believe there is only one masterpiece inside each artist and once you’ve painted it, that’s it — you’re done. I’m not here to say whether that’s true or false. Instead, I’m here to share that I disagree with this notion.

Why? Because it’s small-minded. As an artist who’s experienced the limiting power of small thinking and listened to others’ opinions that stifled my creativity, I can tell you this: this type of belief gets you nowhere. Not in life, not in your creative process, and certainly not in your art business if you’re working to build one.

The idea that there’s only one masterpiece within us fails to recognize the beauty of growth, experimentation, and evolution that comes with a creative life. Masterpieces aren’t just singular moments. They’re milestones on a lifelong journey. Each painting, each sketch, each attempt, and even each mistake contributes to the tapestry of your artistic legacy.

As we close out 2024, let’s leave behind those limiting beliefs. Let’s exit the year with grace and gratitude for the blessings and lessons it has brought us. Embrace 2025 with enthusiasm and excitement, ready to make this year shine with your creative work.
