Am I Crazy? Tackling This Huge Art Goal in 2025
New Year’s resolutions—I have a love-hate relationship with them. There, I said it. Love, it because I genuinely enjoy setting goals that push me forward. Hate, because… well, why do they have to be so terrifying? Like, can’t I just have a cozy, no-pressure, easygoing goal instead of one that makes me question all my life choices?
You get it, right? Please tell me I’m not alone in this.
Whew, okay—so I am not the only one! That’s a relief.
This particular goal isn’t just about painting or color. It’s bigger. It’s about taking everything I’ve learned—the years of experimenting, mixing, and layering—and putting it all in one place. A place where you can access it. Yep, I’m talking about finally creating my online color course.
On top of that, I’ve signed up for five art events this year (what was I thinking?), and I have a solo show at the La Crosse Theatre from October through December. Exciting? Yes. Slightly nerve-wracking? Also yes—because those walls are massive!
The Reality of Juggling It All
Between painting, creating, writing, and keeping up with social media (hello, algorithms, my old nemesis), I’ve been chipping away at this course whenever I can. My original plan was to launch it by March or April, but let’s just say... life had other ideas. So now, I’m recalibrating and figuring out a new timeline while making sure this course gets the attention it deserves.
And honestly? This is exactly why I created The Brushtip—to share little insights into my creative process, my studio life, and what’s happening behind the scenes. It’s a broad topic now, but don’t worry—we’ll narrow it down as the year unfolds.
The Vision for My Color Course
So, what’s this color course all about? Imagine getting an inside look at how I:
🎨 Build color palettes from just a few colors (without creating an overwhelming rainbow explosion).
🎨 Mix my colors—including what I use instead of black (because I haven’t painted with black in years, read more about it here).
🎨 Make colors flow seamlessly together, creating depth and harmony in my paintings.
Think of it as an in-depth color theory course—one that goes beyond the textbook rules and into real, hands-on, artist-to-artist insights that I wish someone had shared with me when I was starting out.
But Wait, There’s More...
Because apparently, I can’t have just one big, scary goal—I’ve also been toying with the idea of a second course. This one would be all about abstract painting:
🖌️ How I start with a blank canvas and build layers of texture.
🖌️ The different tools I use (beyond just a brush!).
🖌️ My favorite studio tricks that aren’t on my usual supply list (which you can find here).
🖌️ And, of course, some color theory—but in a way that’s woven into the process instead of a deep dive.
It would be an 8-week journey where you go from staring at a blank canvas to creating your own stunning abstract paintings.
Your Turn—Help Me Decide!
So now, I want to hear from you! If you’re at the beginning of your art journey, which course would you be more excited about?
🌟 The all-in color deep dive? (Let’s unlock the magic of color mixing and palette-building!)
🎨 The from-start-to-finish abstract painting course? (Let’s create beautiful, textured abstracts together!)
Drop a comment and let me know! Your feedback is so important, and I can’t wait to hear what resonates with you. ❤️
